Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College softball team (5-9, 0-2 CC) opened Centennial Conference action hosting Muhlenberg College (12-2, 4-0 CC) on Thursday afternoon from Clothier Field. The Mules took both games by scores of 5-1 and 10-0 to remain undefeated in conference play.

In game one, the teams remained scoreless through three innings until Muhlenberg's Kelly Kline homered to centerfield to lead-off the fourth. Sophomore catcher Brittany Dzieciolowski added another run with her one-out homerun to left center to put the Mules ahead 2-0. With two outs, Amie DeFeo singled to right field and later advanced to second, but the Garnet defense was able to close the inning before another run crossed the plate.

Senior first baseman Rose Pitkin crushed a two-out double to right center to spark the Garnet dugout. Junior outfielder Chelsea Matzko came to the plate next with a single up the middle to bring Pitkin around and Swarthmore on the board.

Muhlenberg recorded two more runs in the fifth as Erica Wenzel and Dzieciolowski each tabbed RBI singles to make extend the lead to four runs. In the seventh, the Mules opened with a double to left field from Nicole Iannarone. She advanced to third on a ground out to second base and made it home on a single to left from Kline to put the Mules ahead 5-1.

Looking to comeback, Swarthmore's Emma Madarasz drew a walk with two outs followed by a single right from freshman Sara Planthaber which put Madarasz on third. A groundout to the next batter would end the first game.

In the nightcap, Muhlenberg used a 10-run second inning to complete the sweep and remain undefeated in conference play. The Mules offense was fueled by a grand slam from sophomore Taylor Trifolis and junior Alyssa Schell with two runs, three hits and one RBI.

Junior pitcher improved to 5-1 on the season, pitching five scoreless innings with four stikeouts and two hits allowed.

Garnet senior pitcher Sarina Lowe took the loss in game one, recording three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Senior Melissa O'Connor dropped her second game of the season in game two.
