SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Andrew Preiser notched a hat trick to lead the Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team to a 10-5 victory over Muhlenberg on Wednesday, March 26 at Clothier Field.

Playing a man up, the Garnet got on the board first courtesy of an unassisted tally by Preiser at the 11:22 mark. After Preisser finished a Jonathan Molloy pass for his second marker of the game, Muhlenberg's Michael Heenan tied the game up at 2s with 21 seconds left in the opening quarter.

The offenses took over and accounted for nearly half of the goals in the second frame, beginning with two straight scores by Swarthmore's Brendan Conway and Ian Lukaszewicz. Despite allowing two straight goals, the Garnet took a 6-5 lead into the break.

In the second half, Swarthmore's swarming defense being led by junior Darrel Hunter, senior Zach Schaffer and sophomore Matt Lambros kept the Mule offense in check and off the scoreboard for the last 30 minutes to help seal the victory for the hosts. Senior Dane Fichter, junior Chris Thomson and Preiser all found the back of the net in the third, while Conway capped the scoring with 11:58 remaining in the fourth to seal the final outcome.

Swarthmore (3-5, CC 1-1) won 13 of the 19 face-off attempts and had a 36-29 advantage in ground balls in the game. Senior goalkeeper Jonathan also made seven saves, including five in the first half, to earn the victory between the pipes. Muhlenberg (1-7, CC 0-2) had a 30-29 advantage in shots, but only 12 of them were on target.

Swarthmore visits Misericordia for a non-conference matinee on Saturday, March 29 at 4 p.m.
