Box Score
CHESTER, Pa. – Paced by six different goal scorers, Widener defeated the Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team by an 8-3 score in a 320 Challenge battle on Saturday, March 1 at Leslie Quick Junior Stadium.

The teams played a tight first half in which neither side led by more than one possession until the closing minutes. Senior Brendan Conway quickly put the Garnet on the board first by finishing a pass from Andrew Preiser just 1:29 into the contest before sophomore Kyle Gratz answered at the other end to make it 1-1 through the first quarter.

After Conway added a man-up goal to tie the game at 2s with 9:40 remaining in the second frame, Widener seized control by netting five unanswered over a stretch that went into the fourth quarter. Gratz completed a hat trick to cap the run with an unassisted tally early in the fourth frame that made it 7-2 in favor of the Pride. Senior Jonathan Molloy scored to bring the Garnet within four, but that was as close as the visitors would come the rest of the way.

Widener (1-1) outshot Swarthmore 32-17 and had a 34-22 advantage in ground balls. Face-offs were relatively even with the Pride holding an 8-7 edge.

In addition to getting two goals from Conway, Swarthmore senior netminder Jonathan Cohen made 13 saves in the losing effort. Widener's Gratz led all scorers with three goals in the game, while senior Robert Clemens added a goal and two assists.

Swarthmore (0-2) resumes action when it hosts Drew on Wednesday, March 5 at 7 p.m.
