Maggie Eberts won the 200-yard breastroke and contributed to the victorious 200-yard medley relay to help lead the Swarthmore College women's swimming team to a first-place finish among seven schools at the Swarthmore Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Ware Pool.
Eberts, who also posted a 4:52.99 runner-up finish in the 400 IM, hit the wall at 2:35.39 to win the 200-yard breaststroke, just ahead of fellow Garnet freshman
Ashley Hwang, who posted a second-place time of 2:37.28. Eberts also swam the breaststroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay, which finished in first place with a time of 1:54.32, and included seniors
Kate Wiseman and
Supriya Davis as well as sophomore
Erica Flor.
In addition to butterfly leg of the 200 medley relay, Davis won both of her signature events, the 100 and 200-yard butterfly races, by hitting the wall at 1:00.12 and 2:12.40, respectively. Wiseman, who along with Davis also factored into the winning 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:46.78, won her individual event, the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 55.27 seconds. Flor swept the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events with marks of 1:02.64 and 2:14.19, respectively.
Other notable performers included Sydney Andersen, who posted a runner-up time of 19:13.09 in the 1,650-yard freestyle, and freshmen
Ashley Hwang and
Jillian Haywood, who took second and third place with times of 1:13.20 and 1:14.29, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. Haywood was also second in the 200 backstroke behind Flor with a mark of 2:20.37.
Overall, Swarthmore won the meet with 867 points, followed by Salisbury University at 725 points. Cabrini (486), Juniata (412.5), Lycoming (288.5), Fashion Institute of Technology (199) and Ocean County College (181) rounded out the team scoring.
Swarthmore will be back in action after Thanksgiving break when it travels to Collegeville, Pa. for for a dual meet at Ursinus on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m.
