CC Finals Day 2: Men's 4x800 Relay Collects Silver and Sets School Record

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's track and field team picked up a silver medal during day two of the Centennial Conference Championships hosted by Ursinus College.

The legs of Aidan DuMont-McCaffrey, Paul Green, Jonas Oppenheimer and Erick White collected silver with 7:49.08 finish in the 4x800-meter relay – the mark sets a new Garnet record which was previously set in 2007 (7:49.50).

Senior Eric Verhasselt finshed the final five events in the decathlon - 20.04 (110H), 26.55m (discus), 3.24m (pole vault), 35.73m (javelin), 4:45.00 (1500m) – to finish with 4,275 total points for seventh place.

In preliminary heats, Jason Heo and Travis Mattingly cranked up the heat in the 400 intermediate hurdles, finishing 58.42 and 59.06, respectively. Both qualified for Sunday's final round. Also on the track, Matthew Heck moves to the 400-meter dash finals after a 50.37 finish today.

With eight events scored, the Garnet men are ninth overall after two days of competition with 10 points.

Swarthmore will look to collect more medals as the third and final day of competition is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
