LA CROSSE, Wis. - Behind a school-record and personal-best time of 4:28.09, senior Rebecca Hammond of the Swarthmore College women's track & field team finished eighth overall and earned All-America honors in the 1,500 meter run final at the 2013 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon.
This is the first All-America honor of Hammond's illustrious four-year career and the first All-America honor for the Garnet track & field program since Cait Mullarkey in 2009 (1 mile indoor).
Hammond is the third Swarthmore student-athlete to earn All-America honors during the 2012-13 academic year, following in the footsteps of Peter Maxted (men's soccer) and Katie Lytle (women's basketball).
Hammond was one of three Centennial Conference runners to earn All-America honors in the 1,500 run, joining Franklin & Marshall's Sheena Crawley (3rd / 4:21.23) and Johns Hopkins' Annie Monagle (5th / 4:22.95).
