SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's tennis team (5-6) stepped out of Centennial Conference play and defeated visiting Vassar by a score of 8-1 on Saturday afternoon from the Faulkner Courts.
Junior Anthony Collard and senior Malik Mubeen were double winners on the day for Swarthmore. For Collard, it was his fifth-straight win at No. 1 singles
The Garnet fell behind 1-0, dropping No. 1 doubles by a score 8-6, but rebounded to win No. 2 and 3 doubles to jump ahead 2-1.
Swarthmore ran away with the match in singles play, not dropping a set to close out the 8-1 win. Collard (6-4, 6-4), sophomore Max Sacks (6-1, 6-2) and junior Preston Poon (6-3, 6-1) won singles 1 thru 3. Junior Max Kaye (6-1, 6-0) sophomore Irving Stone (6-1, 6-2) and Mubeen (6-2, 6-3) all won in straight sets to finish off the win.
Swarthmore faces Muhlenberg on Monday in a make-up match for last week's postponement. Play is set for 5:00 p.m.
