Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. - In a match-up of the Centennial Conference's two top teams, visiting No. 5 Johns Hopkins (25-2, 9-0) got the better of the Swarthmore College baseball team (18-10, 6-3), sweeping the doubleheader by scores of 4-1 (Game 1) and 10-0 (Game 2).
Sophomore starter
Luke Alventosa kept the Garnet close in Game 1, as the third inning ended in a scoreless tie before the Blue Jays broke through for two in the top of the fourth. Swarthmore appeared to be mounting a rally in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with nobody out, but only managed to push across one run.
Junior
Matt Bertuch finished out Game 1 with three scoreless innings.
In Game 2, the potent Garnet bats were completely at the mercy of Hopkins starter Jacob Enterlin, who threw 6 and 2/3 perfect innings before an error allowed Swarthmore its first baserunner. Enterlin continued the no-hitter into the eighth, when senior
Sean Bryant pinch hit and beat out a grounder to third for Swarthmore's first hit.
Home runs were the difference in the ballgame, as three different Hopkins batters went yard to put the Garnet in an early and insurmountable hole.
Swarthmore will attempt to get back in the win column tomorrow, taking on Washington College in a makeup of yesterday's rainout. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
