Men's Lacrosse Falls 13-7 at McDaniel

WESTMINISTER, Md. - The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team (3-7, 1-3 CC) suffered a Centennial Conference setback at McDaniel College (4-9, 1-4 CC) on Wednesday night by a 13-7 score.

After a close scoring opening half, the Green Terror surged ahead in the second by outscoring the Garnet 6-2 to collect its first conference victory of the season.

Seniors Wes Marcik and Steve Selverian along with sophomore Ian Lukaszewicz tallied two goals apiece in the effort. Jon Molloy finished with one goal and one assist. Selverian collected a game-high six ground balls and Michael Girardi forced three McDaniel turnovers in the contest.

Leading the McDaniel offense was Zach Monzo and Pat Woglom with four goals each, while Jason Lawrence racked up a hat trick and two assists.

Between the pipes, Jonathan Cohen made 17 stops for the Garnet. The Green Terror used three keepers in the contest with Christian Dallmus making eight saves in 53:08 of playing time.

Lawrence broke the 1-1 tie at 14:03 in the second period to start a high-scoring frame for both teams. The Green Terror added one more before Lukaszewicz collected his first of the game off a pass from Mac Mcquire at 12:39 to set the score at 3-2. Homestanding McDaniel responded with four goals over the next five minutes to take a 7-2 lead with 6:27 remaining in the half. In the final two minutes of action, the Garnet fired off three goals to make it 7-5 at halftime.

The Green Terror came out of the break with three more goals to taking a commanding 10-5 lead and held the momentum to the finish – McDaniel's defense allowed just two goals in the final two periods to collect the conference victory.

Swarthmore will host No. 15 Franklin and Marshall on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m.
