Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team (18-8) couldn't summon its come-from-behind magic on Wednesday, as the Garnet fell 6-1 to DeSales University (19-7) in non-conference action at Clothier Field.
Junior first baseman Nicko Burnett and junior third baseman Cody Ruben both earned two hits, while sophomore shortstop Danny McMahon knocked in the Garnet's only run.
Sophomore starter Dylan Jeffers fought hard through five innings of work, pitching capably to the tune of two earned runs (three in total) and five strikeouts. Jeffers was the victim of some bad luck, giving up his three runs on an infield single, a groundout, and an error.
Swarthmore's offense was uncharacteristically silent, failing to mount rallies despite eight hits. Garnet batters grounded into three double plays, and only pushed across a run in the eighth on a two-out single by McMahon.
Freshman Alex Chiang and sophomores Matt Sharma and Samer Nashed came on in relief of Jeffers to finish the game.
The Garnet will try to get back in the win column on Friday, as the team travels to Washington College for a rematch of Tuesday's conference win. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
