Box Score The Swarthmore College baseball team (14-6) extended its winning streak to six on Monday, crushing Keuka College (0-6) by 15-6 score in non-conference action at Clothier Field.
Sophomore shortstop Danny McMahon earned four hits in the rout, driving in two runs. Senior left fielder Bryce Codell and sophomore right fielder Gregory Cox also drove in two runs each; Cox also stole four bases.
Despite the final score, Swarthmore found itself down early, as freshman starter Joe Warren surrendered a run in each of the second and third innings. However, the Garnet struck back in the fourth, as a balk with runners on the corners and an RBI single from Cox tied the game at 2.
The Garnet really took the game in hand in the fifth, scoring seven times to take a 9-2 lead. After a bases-loaded walk put Swarthmore ahead, McMahon's bases-loaded two-run single extended the lead; a sac fly from Codell, a two-out RBI double from senior Rory McTear, and a pair of wild pitches capped the scoring in the inning.
Although Keuka scored twice on an error in the top of the sixth, Swarthmore tacked on two more in the bottom of the seventh; the first was courtesy of Cox, who was hit by a pitch and stole two bases before being driven in on junior third baseman Cody Ruben's sac fly. With two outs in the inning, junior first baseman Nicko Burnett doubled home sophomore Brian Kaissi to stretch the lead to 11-4.
Up 11-6 in the eighth, the Garnet scored four more times, including RBI hits from Codell and Cox.
Warren labored through five innings, but managed to keep Keuka at just two runs through his stint on the mound. Freshman Nathan Booth and sophomores Matt Sharma and Samer Nashed combined to finish the victory.
Swarthmore returns to Conference action tomorrow, taking on Tri-Co rival Haverford at Clothier Field. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
