NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Rebecca Hammond of the Swarthmore College women's track and field team set a new program record in the mile event at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon.

Hammond ran in the first of two preliminary heats of the mile event on Friday afternoon to finish at 4:57.07 to set the Garnet's program record, surpassing Caitlin Mullarkey's '09 4:59.54 mark set in 2009.

Hammond, a senior from Winters, California, missed the final round by just tenths of a second.

This is the second-consecutive year that Hammond has qualified for the indoor championships and first time in the mile (she has reached both the indoor and outdoor championships in the 800 meter run).
