Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team (2-5, 1-1 CC) had its hands full Wednesday night with an impressive Muhlenberg College (5-4, 1-1 CC), dropping the Centennial Conference matchup by a 15-6 score.
The Garnet started hot once again, scoring the opening two goals of the game with both tallies from sophomore Andrew Preiser inside the opening eight minutes. Junior Brendan Conway assisted on Preiser's first. The Mules answered back with two of their own from senior Ian Jones and sophomore Jon Thomas. From there, the Mules were unstoppable, finishing the half with ten unanswered to lead 12-2.
Swarthmore came out of the break with momentum, outscoring the Mules 4-3 in the second half. Sophomore Ian Lukaszewicz, senior Steve Selverian, freshman Mac Maquire, and sophomore Chris Thomson all tallied for the Garnet, with Selverian seeing his 17th of the year sting the back of the net.
The Garnet defense had their hands full with senior Doug Rheiner and Thomas, each racking up a hat-trick. The Garnet defense faced a flurry of 54 shots in the game, 27 of which were on frame. Junior Jon Cohen finished with nine saves and freshman R.J. Tischler finished with two.
The Mules dominated in several categories, winning sixteen face-offs to Swarthmore's eight, and 45 ground balls to Swarthmore's 27.
The Garnet look to find its stride once again traveling to non-conference opponent Elmira on Saturday, March 30. Action is slated to begin at 1 pm.
