Box Score ABINGTON, Pa. - A complete-game performance from senior starter Ramsey Walker led the Swarthmore College baseball team (11-6) to its third consecutive win on Wednesday, as the Garnet defeated Penn St. Abington (8-13) by a 4-2 score.
Walker went nine innings, only allowing two runs despite eleven hits. He was supported by a 3-hit day from junior second baseman Nick Constantino and a 2-hit, 2-RBI performance from junior third baseman Cody Ruben.
The Garnet took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first on sophomore catcher Joe Rizzo's fielder's choice; however, Abington rebounded for two against Walker in the bottom of the inning.
The score remained 2-1 until the top of the fifth, when Ruben singled with runners on second and third to tie the score; two batters later, senior centerfielder Rory McTear hit a sacrifice fly to put Swarthmore on top.
In the seventh, the Garnet scratched out an insurance run as Constantino singled, stole second, and scored on Ruben's single.
Walker finished the day with eight consecutive scoreless innings to earn the win.
Swarthmore returns to action on Saturday, taking on Dickinson from Clothier Field in the Centennial Conference opener. Action is set to begin at 12:30.
