Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Behind a four-hit day from senior Tim Kwilos, the Swarthmore College baseball team (7-5) cruised past visiting PSU-Brandywine by a score of 14-6 on a chilly Wednesday afternoon at Clothier Field.
Kwilos finished the day with four hits -- just a triple shy of the cycle -- and four RBI. With Swat trailing 6-3, his two-run homer in the fourth inning helped kick-start a Garnet rally that saw the team score the final 11 runs of the game unanswered.
Sophomore Joe Rizzo finished the day with three hits and three RBI while junior Nicko Burnett, sophomore Danny McMahon and sophomore Scoop Ruxin all finished with multiple hits. Senior Rory McTear added a double.
Senior Ramsey Walker pitched four innings of relief to pick up the win.
Swarthmore jumped in front 3-0 and was seemingly in control of the game, but the Lions responded with a six-run fourth inning to go ahead 6-3. Kwilos engineered the Garnet's comeback, as his two-run blast to left-centerfield cut the lead to 6-5. Moments later, McTear tied the game up with some crafty base-running, as the senior stole two bases and then came home on a wild pitch. Three batters later, Swarthmore went on top for good when an RBI single from McMahon brought Burnett across home plate.
RBI singles from Burnett and freshman John Lim in the fifth and sixth innings added to the Garnet lead, while a three-run seventh inning put the game out of reach.
Junior Matt Bertuch got the start and struck out three batters through four innings. Sophomore Samer Nashed closed it out in the ninth with two strikeouts.
Swarthmore returns to action Thursday against Carin.
