ATLANTA – Junior Osazenoriuwa Ebose set a new program record in the shot put to highlight the Swarthmore College women's track and field outdoor season-opener at the 42nd Annual Morehouse Relays. The meet came at the conclusion of the Garnet's spring training trip.
Ebose set the outdoor mark with a 12.01 meter (39' 5") toss to finish fourth-overall in the shot put event. She also compiled top-10 program marks in the discus (31.3m, 102' 1") and javelin (25.81m, 84' 8") for seventh and fifth place, respectively.
Also in the field, freshman Shaina Lu took second in the pole vault event with a 2.29 meter (7' 6") mark.
Back on the track, the Garnet distance runners opened the season with strong times. Senior Becky Painter (10:38.69), freshman Jenna Cody (10:44.46) and freshman Katie McMenamin (10:56.75) finished one-two-three in the 3,000-meter event. With seven Swarthmore competitors in the 1,500-meter run, freshman Sarah Nielsen (4:57.22) placed second-overall followed by Emma Saarel (5:23.19) and Zoe Cina-Sklar (5:32.41) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, highlighted the event.
Sophomore Liz Tawa finished the 800-meter run at 2:29.16 for third place, while freshman Katie Lin (4th, 1:01.13) and sophomore Julia Nee (5th, 1:01.52) placed in the 400-meter.
For the relays, Swarthmore finished third in the 4x400-meter at 4:13.06 with the legs of Lin, McMenamin, Nee and Neilsen.
Swarthmore will return to competition March 28-29 in the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener University.
