Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team (0-1) opened the season on a sour note on Friday, falling by a 7-1 score to Arcadia in non-Conference action.
The only Swarthmore batter with multiple hits on the afternoon was sophomore catcher Joe Rizzo, who singled and doubled.
The Garnet was in a hole before the first inning was over, as Arcadia picked up three in the first thanks in part to a crucial error; the Knights tacked on four more in the fourth to increase their lead to seven.
Senior starter Ramsey Walker was charged with seven runs in 3 2/3 innings; however, none of them were earned, as Swarthmore made five errors in total.
Swarthmore did get one back in the eighth, as junior first baseman Nicko Burnett doubled home senior third baseman Tim Kwilos.
Senior Sean Mangus and sophomore Luke Alventosa combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Walker.
The Garnet will try to notch its first win on Wednesday's home opener, taking on Gwynedd-Mercy. Action is set to begin at 3 pm.
