Box Score

ST. DAVID, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team's 2013 campaign  got off to a tough start, as the Garnet fell to host Eastern 13-7 on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet started off hot, scoring the game's first three goals. Senior Steve Selverian put the Garnet on the board with three minutes left in the first quarter, his first of the campaign. Only 25 seconds later, sophomore Ian Lukaszewicz opened his account for the season with his first goal. Selvarian added two more on the day to his tally, making it three for the season, as well as recording seven ground balls. Eastern finished out the quarter scoring two more goals, making it 4-3 at halftime.

Eastern started the second half off strong, scoring six of  seven goals in the third quarter. Sophomore Grant Ferguson led the Eagles with three goals on the day, while eight different players found the net. The Eagles finished the game with a total of 41 shots.

The Eagles' Aaron Benz had a strong day in net, making 14 saves.

The Garnet defense was lead by junior Geli Carabases and senior Mike Girardi, who had three and two ground balls, respectively. Junior John Cohen recorded 10 saves in net, including an acrobatic point-blank stop to keep the game close in the second quarter.

Jonathan Molloy troubled the Eastern defense at time, directing play and recording six shots of his own. Keane Ehsani was solid on face-offs, winning two of three on the day. Sophomore Grayson Roze and senior Wes Marcik also tallied for the Garnet.

Swarthmore will look for its first win of the season next Saturday, March 2, at 1:00 P.M. when it faces Widener at home.
