COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Led by medal-winning performances from the 4x800 and distance medlay relay teams, the Swarthmore College women's track & field team finished its indoor season with a solid showing at the 2013 Centennial Conference Championships.
The 4x800 relay team of senior Rebecca Hammond, senior Becky Painter, freshman Sarah Nielsen and freshman Katie McMenamin won gold, setting a conference record with a time of 9:30.42. McMenamin crossed the finish just ahead of her competitior from Johns Hopkins to seal first for the Garnet.
Painter, Nielsen, and McMenamin were at it again in the distance medley relay, teamming with freshman Amy Amuquandoh to take second place with a time of 12:34.21 . That time ranks second all-time in program history.
Individually, Hammond placed fourth in the 1 mile with a time of 5:04.12.
Sophomore Osazenoriuwa Ebose also earned a fourth-place finish in the shot put (38-07.00).
Sophomore Julia Nee ran a season best in the 400 meter dash (1:02.23), good for sixth-place overall. Nee was also a member of the 4x200 team - along with Amuquandoh, Helen Thum and Katie Lin - that finished seventh overall (1:54.08).
Lin took fifth overall in the long jump, reaching 16-02.50.
In the 3,000 meter run, freshman Jenna Cody placed ninth overall with a time of 10:41.7
As a team, the Garnet women finished in seventh place with 39 points. Johns Hopkins won the championship with 231 points.
