Women's Swimming Collect Four Medals After Day One of Centennials

LANCASTER, Pa. - Led by sophomore Kate Wiseman, the Swarthmore College women's swim team earned a pair of gold medals on the first day of the Centennial Conference Championship meet at F&M on Friday.  The Garnet is currently in fifth place, but less than twenty points separate Swarthmore's team from the third spot.

Wiseman, who won five gold medals at last year's championships, has two golds and a silver in her pocket on the first day of this competition. She won the 50 freestyle in a fast 24.28, and swam the anchor leg of the both the winning 400 medley relay (4:00.76, with Rebecca Teng, Nikkia Miller, and Supriya Davis) and the second-place 200 freestyle relay (1:39.37, with Erin Lowe, Miller, and Davis).

Davis was also a key player in Friday's sessions; swimming the butterfly leg of the medley relay, she split 56.01 on the 100 to make up a nearly four-second deficit and hand Wiseman the last-lap lead.  She also earned a bronze medal in the 200 IM (2:10.63) and swam the third leg in the 200 freestyle relay.  Both relays recorded the second-fastest times in program history.

The CC Championships resume tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. with preliminaries for the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke. Final sessions begin at 6:00 p.m.
