SWARTHMORE, Pa. -  A long-distance goal from Haverford's Ford Bohrmann late in the first-half proved to be the difference as No. 3 seed Haverford upset the top-seeded Swarthmore College men's soccer team 1-0 in the Centennial Conference Championship Match from Clothier Field Stadium on Sunday evening.

With the win, the Fords (12-7) claim their first ever Centennial Conference title and earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament

With the loss, the Garnet (14-2-2) must now await word from the NCAA selection committee about a possible at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The selection committee will announce the 2012 field live on NCAA.com at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.

Neither side was able to generate much momentum during a chippy first half, but Haverford's Bohrmann changed everything with just 80 seconds remaining in the first half. The junior – who also scored with less than two minutes remaining in the first half of the Fords semifinal win over Dickinson – blasted a curling shot from 20-yards out into the upper-right corner of the goal to put Haverford ahead 1-0.

The goal was Bohrmann's third of the season – two of which have come in the Centennial Conference Championship Tournament.

Down a goal, Swarthmore  tried desperately to piece together a rally, but could not break down the Fords' defense. Senior captain Jack Momeyer got the Garnet's best look of the second half, pushing a clean shot wide right of the target in the 63rd minute. A header wide of the goal from Joe Keedy in the 89th off a nice set piece would prove to be Swarthmore's last chance, as Haverford ran out the clock in the final two minutes to claim the title.

The loss is the Garnet's first in regualtion during the 2012 season and snapped a season-best 11-match unbeaten streak. The defeat also marks the first time the Garnet has been shut out all season.

A physical contest saw the two teams combine for 25 fouls.

The Garnet finished with an 11-10 edge in shots but the the Fords put more on target (6-2).

In goal for Swarthmore, junior Peter Maxted made five saves.

Swarthmore will await word from the NCAA selection committee about a possible at-large berth in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The selection show will air live Monday at 1:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
