SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swim team finished second on the first day of competition at the 4th Annual Swarthmore Invitational on Friday. The team trails only Rowan University, and has a lead of over 100 points on its next-closest competitor.
Senior Daniel Duncan scored the highest individual finish for the Garnet, placing fourth in the 200 IM (2:00.69). Swarthmore did the most damage in the 500 freestyle, putting four men in the top ten on the strength of senior Charlie Hepper (5th, 5:04.37), freshman Josh Turek-Herman (6th, 5:06.01), senior Joshua Satre (7th, 5:06.70), and freshman Riley Collins (9th, 5:08.50). Sophomore Samuel Tomlinson swam to an 8th-place finish in the 50 freestyle (22.89).
The relays also had a successful night with two second place finishes, as the 200 freestyle relay team of Tomlinson, Duncan, sophomore Max Krackow, and junior John Flaherty touched in 1:30.36, and the 400 medley relay team of Tomlinson, Duncan, senior Roger Chin, and junior Stan Le swam to a 3:44.65.
The Garnet returns to the pool tomorrow as the Invitational begins its second day. Action is expected to start at 9:30 am.
