SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Coming off an up-and-down regular season and an uncharacteristic fifth-place showing at Centennial Conference Championships last season, the Swarthmore men's swim team will look to regroup and take steps forward as the 2012-13 season gets underway.

Head coach Sue Davis' Garnet squad will be led by junior John Flaherty, who took home a gold and a silver at last year's championship meet, and senior Daniel Duncan. Flaherty earned a gold medal in the 400 IM and touched second in the 200 butterfly, and remains one of the Conference's top talents in butterfly and IM events. Duncan did not medal last season but is hoping to return to his sophomore year form, which earned him a pair of silver medals and as many bronzes at the 2011 meet. Senior Josh Satre, 2012 bronze medalist in the 1650, is expected to provide a solid distance presence for the team.

Joining Duncan and Satre are a core of six other seniors, as Charlie Hepper, Roger Chin, Nathaniel Lo, Patrick Monari, Nick Sohn, and Lucas Zullo will be counted on to provide veteran presence and leadership.

The Garnet graduated six in the class of 2012, including school record holders Tim Brevart and Sam Bullard-Sisken and American record holder Travis Pollen, but nine freshmen will look to fill their shoes as competition season begins.

Swarthmore begins the season with a three-meet homestand, starting with an October 31 "320 Challenge" engagement with local rival Widener at 6:30 p.m. The Garnet opens the Centennial dual meet schedule on November 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at home against McDaniel. The fourth annual Swarthmore Invitational is scheduled for November 30 and December 1.
