SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team (18-5, 7-2 CC) made a quick finish over the visiting Bryn Mawr Owls (7-18, 1-8 CC) on Tuesday night, winning in straight sets for the second consecutive match, (25-5, 25-8, 25-22).

Danielle Sullivan, Allie Coleman and Kate Amodei led the Garnet defense with seven digs each, while freshman setter Samantha DuBois collected six of her own.

Zahra Ahmed racked up eight kills to lead Swarthmore's offensive effort. Chastity Hopkins added six kills and Brone Lobichusky managed seven kills and one service ace to hit a team-best .385 in the match. Coleman led with 18 assists and DuBois picked up eight helpers.

Coleman, Sullivan and Amodei each collected three service aces on the night.

The Garnet got off to a quick start, allowing just a combined 13 points in the opening two sets. Tied at two early on, Swarthmore went on a six-point run during senior captain Kat Montemurro's service to jump ahead, 8-2. The lead continued to grow for the Garnet as it hit the match-best .409 at the attacking line, closing out the set with 11 kills and two errors on 22 attempts.

The second set also began with a two-all tie before the Garnet continued its momentum. Swarthmore gathered seven service aces in the second set alone, ending the night with 14, en route to a 25-8 set victory.

The Owls looked to force a fourth set as it came from a eight-point deficit to tie the third set at 15-all, forcing a Garnet timeout to regroup. The teams stayed neck-to-neck for much of the remainder of the set, but Swarthmore was able to pull away with the decisive third set rout, 25-22, to end the match.

The game was Swarthmore's annual 'Dig for a Cure' match where the Garnet posted 44 digs to raise money for Tanner's Touch. Donations were made for each dig the team records in the match.

Tanner's Touch is a non-profit organization based in Carroll County, Md., founded by former Gettysburg assistant volleyball coach Stephanie (Yingling) Moore in honor of her son who was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of pediatric cancer in 2009. Tanner's Touch will, in turn, donate the proceeds to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Cancer Research.

Swarthmore will close out the regular season this coming Saturday as it hosts Haverford College at 1:00 pm during Garnet Weekend.
