LANCASTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore College field hockey team swept the Centennial Conference weekly awards on Tuesday with
Libby Castle and
Josie Sarno earning Offensive Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors respectively.
Castle scored a goal in both Garnet victories last week, helping increase their win streak to four games. She opened the week by recording the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter to complete a come-from-behind 2-1 upset of No. 19 TCNJ. The rookie also found the back of the cage in Swarthmore's 5-0 triumph at Widener. Castle leads the team with four goals and eight points this season, ranking in the top-10 in the conference in both categories.
Sarno backstopped the Garnet to two victories last week, posting 16 saves, a .941 save percentage, and a 0.50 goals against average with one shutout. The rookie tied her season-high with 10 saves, including five in the fourth quarter, to help Swarthmore to a comeback 2-1 upset of No. 19 TCNJ. Sarno followed that with six saves at Widener in a 5-0 victory, earning her second shutout of the season.
The Garnet host Rowan University on Wednesday.
