LANCASTER, Pa. – Swarthmore College's
Lola Diaz was chosen the Centennial Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year and was one of seven Garnet players to earn All-Centennial honors, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon. In addition, Swarthmore garnered the Centennial Coaching Staff of the Year award.
Diaz became the second consecutive Garnet athlete to be named the conference Player of the Year following
Nathalie Williams in 2025. Diaz is the seventh individual overall in program history to receive the honor. Swarthmore's seven All-Centennial honorees equals the program record, now shared with the 2017 squad.
Diaz and
Erin Li were both selected to the All-Centennial First Team Singles and the pair also earned First Team Doubles recognition.
Ella Strickler,
Lisa Messier, and
Hannah Kideckel were all Second Team Singles selections while the doubles duo of
Kathleen Shiffer and
Paola Almeda received honorable mention. In addition,
Alice Coxe was Swarthmore's representative on the Centennial All-Sportsmanship Team.
Diaz went 5-1 in conference singles action, all at the top spot. Four of her victories came in straight sets. She also won both of her matches during the Centennial Tournament, picking up the Most Valuable Player award. The senior is 11-11 overall, including 8-6 at first singles.
Li was a perfect 4-0 in Centennial play, all at the second spot. She has an 11-9 overall record for the season. As a doubles pair, Diaz and Li went 4-1 in conference action at the first position and they are 12-8 overall.
Strickler leads the Garnet in singles wins with a 14-2 mark. She went unbeaten in conference play with a 5-0 record, all matches being decided in straight sets.
Messier also went 5-0 in Centennial matches without dropping a set. She is 8-8 overall on the year.
Kideckel boasted a perfect conference mark at 5-0. She won all of her decisions in straight sets. The rookie is 13-4 overall.
Shiffer and Almeda went 3-1 in-conference as a doubles pair and they have a total record of 9-6.
The Swarthmore coaching staff was recognized for the second year in a row under head coach
Jeremy Loomis. Alongside assistants
Alicia Papa and
Amanda Frantz, Loomis led the Garnet to an undefeated conference record, their second consecutive Centennial title, and a NCAA Tournament appearance. Swarthmore is currently ranked 17
th in the nation with a peak of No. 16 this year.
The Garnet continue their season this weekend in the NCAA Tournament. Swarthmore takes on Simmons University for the first round on Friday.
