No. 15 Women’s Swimming Holds Strong Heading Into Championship Finale

LANCASTER, Pa. - The No. 15 Swarthmore College women's swimming team maintained its lead over Johns Hopkins University after the third night of the Centennial Championships on Saturday. The Garnet have accumulated 561 points, while the Blue Jays trail just behind at 542.5 points heading into the final night.

Quinn Weygandt continued to make history, becoming the third swimmer in conference history to win four-straight gold medals in the 400 IM. She also became the first conference swimmer to sweep both the 200 and 400 IMs in four-straight seasons. The senior achieved a meet record in the event, while falling just short of her conference-best mark.

Cara Dominici maintained the program's dominance in the 100 breaststroke, capturing the team's sixth-straight gold medal in the event. The junior secured her first-ever individual championship after placing as the runner-up at last season's meet.

Swarthmore built on its relay success with a gold medal finish in the 200 freestyle relay. The team overtook the conference record, while posting one of the fastest times in the nation.

In total, the women added to their medal count with three golds and two silvers. The Garnet have earned 12 medals heading into tomorrow's finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet opened the evening with a conference record in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Genine Collins, Riley Bacinski, Sam Packard and Elle Anthony sprinted to a time of 1:32.24 to capture the gold medal. The swim set a conference and program record, outperformed the NCAA B cut and currently sits as the second fastest time in the country. The Garnet won the event for the fourth-straight season.

- Weygandt became a four-time champion in the 400 IM, becoming the third swimmer to accomplish the feat and first since 2007. She is also the only swimmer in conference history to sweep both the individual medley events in four-straight seasons. A three-time All-American in the event, Weygandt made history with a championship record of 4:20.71, falling a few tenths of a second short of her conference record. She also posted a season-best, blew away last season's NCAA invite time and still holds the third-fastest swim in the country.

- The Garnet had four individuals qualify for the 100 butterfly finals. Norah Rutkowski, who won the prelim race, settled for silver with a time of 55.55. Collins followed in fourth at 56.10, while Bacinski (56.63) and Mirabel Fernald (57.16) grabbed sixth and eighth, respectively. Rutkowski raced to a program record in both the finals and the prelims. Bacinski also improved to eighth all-time in the event.

- Kate Hallmark finished fourth overall in the 200 freestyle at 1:52.87, moving into fourth all-time in program history with a lifetime-best result. Ava Craig picked up more points for the Garnet with a victory in the consolation race, touching the wall at 1:53.64.

- Swarthmore overwhelmed the field with five swimmers in the 100 breaststroke finals. Cara Dominici (1:03.47) narrowly untouched Elle Anthony (1:03.55) to capture her first-ever gold medal in the event.  Both swimmers swam to an NCAA B cut and moved into third and fourth all-time, respectively. Cindy Wang (1:05.92), Annabelle Hoover (1:05.97) and Packard (1:06.73) rounded out the Garnet in fifth, sixth and eighth.

- Maya Ambardekar wrapped up the evening with a fourth-place effort in the 100 backstroke, matching the program record at 56.42 while outperforming the NCAA B cut. Marin Norlander also swam in the finals, finishing seventh at 57.65.
