Box Score 3 SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's tennis team opened the 2025-26 campaign with the Swarthmore Invitational this past weekend. The Garnet took on squads from Vassar College, Hamilton College, Stevens Institute of Technology, and New York University.
Kai Chen and
Nicholas Choo led Swarthmore with six victories apiece in the tournament, each winning three singles and three doubles bouts. Overall, the Garnet went 48-2 against their opponents, posting a 31-2 singles record and going undefeated in 17 doubles matches.
Michael Melnikov made program history, becoming the all-time wins leader with 134 career victories. He surpassed the previous mark of 132 set by Steve Brown in 1984. Melnikov has compiled 70 singles wins, which is tied for the program record, and 64 doubles triumphs.

- Swarthmore won all nine singles matches in straight sets against the Brewers. The Garnet also were victorious in all five doubles tilts. Melnikov,
Dylan Hayes Gilbert, Chen, Choo, and
Andres Fente all picked up a pair of wins.
SWARTHMORE VS. HAMILTON
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore went unbeaten versus the Continentals over nine singles bouts. The Garnet were also 5-0 in doubles play. Choo,
Aamish Pal, Fente,
Fate MacAlasdair, and
Utham Koduri all won in both singles and doubles.
SWARTHMORE VS. STEVENS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite dropping its first match, Swarthmore was dominant against the Ducks, going 7-1 in singles action and 4-0 in doubles competition. Choo,
Cameron Samek, and MacAlasdair all tallied two victories. Melnikov recorded his milestone win with an 8-7 (7-5) decision in doubles alongside Koduri.
SWARTHMORE VS. NYU
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet finished the tournament strong, posting a 9-1 record versus the Violets. Chen and
Winston Zhang grabbed wins in both singles and doubles.
