PHILADELPHIA – Swarthmore College's
Nathalie Williams and
Kathleen Shiffer were named to the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Women's Tennis Team on Monday. In addition, Williams was chosen the Performer of the Year for the first time.
Williams was an Academic All-Area selection for the second year in a row while it was the first career honor for Shiffer. The Academic All-Area Team is voted on by the athletic communications offices from 30 institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
Williams was the Centennial Conference Player of the Year while also garnering First Team Singles and Second Team Doubles honors. She finished her final season with a 13-4 singles record and 11-6 doubles mark. Williams, who also was named the Centennial Tournament MVP, led the Garnet to their first conference title since 2006. She was ranked as high as fifth in the region this season in singles by the ITA, while also reaching a peak of sixth in doubles. Williams was tabbed the ITA Atlantic South Senior Player of the Year.
Shiffer was named All-Centennial Conference First Team Doubles and Second Team Singles. She produced a 13-7 singles record, going 5-0 in conference, and a 14-9 doubles mark, also going a perfect 5-0 in conference.
