GILBERT, Ariz. – The Swarthmore College women's tennis team climbed two spots to No. 21 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Ranking.
The Garnet (16-4) captured their first Centennial Conference title since 2006, and sixth overall, with a 4-1 victory over Franklin and Marshall College. Swarthmore blanked Dickinson College, 4-0, in the conference semifinals.
Nathalie Williams was named the Centennial Tournament MVP and has a 13-3 singles record this season.
Ella Strickler leads the Garnet in victories with a 16-4 mark.
Erin Li has had an outstanding rookie campaign, boasting a 15-5 record and being named an alternate for the NCAA Individual Championships.
Lisa Messier (13-4) and
Kathleen Shiffer (12-7) also have double-digit wins this year.
Riya Rao and Strickler have been a force at third doubles, sporting a 15-2 record with a 15-match win streak. Swarthmore's second pair of Li and Shiffer are 12-8 on the season while the top duo of
Lola Diaz and Williams have a 7-3 mark.
The Garnet take on Penn State Harrisburg in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.
