INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 16 Swarthmore College women's tennis team will travel to Amherst College for the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Tournament on May 8-10. The Garnet are set to open play on Friday with a first-round match versus Simmons University.
The winner between the Garnet and Sharks advances to Saturday's second round to take on the winner of Amherst versus Manhattanville University. Wesleyan University, Moravian University, and Hunter College are in the other half of the bracket for the weekend. One team will move on to the national quarterfinals at Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 18-26.
Swarthmore (15-6) is making its second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance after the Garnet earned their second Centennial Conference title in a row. It is Swarthmore's eighth trip to the national postseason overall. Last year, the Garnet defeated Penn State Harrisburg in the first round before falling to host Washington and Lee University.
Simmons (12-7) captured the North Atlantic Conference championship in its first year as a member. Amherst (11-7) received an at-large bid out of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) after falling to Wesleyan in the semifinals. The Mammoths are currently ranked 18
th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Manhattanville (10-2) won the Skyline Conference title for the second time in three years.
Wesleyan (18-2) claimed its sixth NESCAC crown in seven years to earn an automatic bid. The Cardinals are ranked No. 4 in the nation by the ITA. Moravian (17-3) won the Landmark Conference championship. Hunter (12-0) captured its second consecutive City University of New York Athletic Conference title.
