GILBERT, Ariz. – The Swarthmore College women's tennis team received a pair of regional awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Monday.
Nathalie Williams was named the Atlantic South Senior Player of the Year, becoming the first athlete in program history to earn the award. In addition, head coach
Jeremy Loomis earned Atlantic South Coach of the Year honors.
Williams was selected the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and garnered First Team Singles and Second Team Doubles recognition. She finished her final season with a 13-4 singles record and 11-6 doubles mark. Williams went 11-4 at first singles during the campaign, including a perfect 6-0 record in conference play. Williams boasted a 10-5 mark at the top doubles position, also going unbeaten in the Centennial at 6-0.
Williams was named the Centennial Tournament MVP after leading the Garnet to their first conference title since 2006. She was ranked as high as fifth in the region this season in singles by the ITA, while also reaching a peak of sixth in doubles.
Loomis guided Swarthmore to its first Centennial championship since 2006, and fourth overall in his 22-year tenure, as well as its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007. The Garnet advanced to the second round of the national tourney and ended with a 17-5 record, setting a new program mark for wins in a single season. Swarthmore was ranked in the national top 25 six times during the campaign, reaching a height of No. 18.
