GREENWOOD, Ind. – Four Swarthmore College women's tennis student-athletes earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Riya Rao,
Kathleen Shiffer,
Ella Strickler, and
Nathalie Williams were all named to the squad. It is the second consecutive year in which Shiffer has been recognized.
To be eligible for Academic All-District accolades, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. The Academic All-District Team is part of the Academic All-America program, which is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across college sports.
Rao received All-Centennial honorable mention in doubles. She posted a 15-3 record, all with Strickler as her partner.
Shiffer was an All-Centennial First Team Doubles and Second Team Singles selection. She went 14-9 in doubles matches, including a 14-8 mark with regular partner
Erin Li. In singles, Shiffer compiled a 13-7 record.
Strickler earned All-Centennial Second Team Singles recognition and was an honorable mention in doubles alongside Rao. She had a 17-5 singles record and was 18-6 in doubles, including a 15-3 mark with Rao.
Williams was the Centennial Player of the Year and garnered First Team Singles honors as well as Second Team Doubles. She went 13-4 in singles play and 11-6 in doubles competition.
The group helped Swarthmore win its first Centennial Conference title since 2006 and make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007.
