LANCASTER, Pa. – Swarthmore College's
Zander Jimenez was chosen the Centennial Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year and was also named to the All-Centennial Second Team, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon. In addition,
Matt Mulvey was the Garnet's representative on the Centennial All-Sportsmanship Team.
Jimenez is the second Garnet player to receive top rookie honors alongside
Vinny DeAngelo who earned the accolade in 2020. Jimenez is also the first Swarthmore rookie to be named to the All-Centennial First or Second Team since Will Gates in 2010.
Jimenez led the Garnet in scoring with 15.1 points per game. He posted a .423 field goal percentage, including a .362 clip from three-point range. Jimenez also led Swarthmore with a .830 free throw percentage. The first-year averaged 5.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest. Jimenez scored double-digits in all but two of his 21 games this season, scoring 20-plus on four occasions with a career-high 31 at Johns Hopkins. He recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds at Washington.
Jimenez ranked third in the Centennial in free throw percentage, fourth in steals per game, seventh in points per game, and 10
th in rebounds per game. His 31 points at Hopkins were the third-most by a conference player this season.
The rookie helped lead Swarthmore to a 17-9 record and a Centennial Tournament appearance.
