Men’s Basketball Falls to Hopkins in Home Finale

SWARTHMORE, Pa.  - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team wrapped up its home schedule with a 73-62 loss to Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday. The Garnet outshot their rivals by eight percentage points, but the visitors went 27-of-31 from the foul line, while Swarthmore only attempted six free throws.

Eddie Paquette delivered another remarkable performance in what may have been his final game at Tarble Pavilion. The senior logged 21 points while shooting an efficient 9-of-11 from the field. He also hit 3-of-4 from long range.

Zander Jimenez came close to a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, acting as the team's second leading scorer on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet raced out to a fast start, building an 11-5 lead to open the contest. Paquette drilled a pair of threes during the stretch to score eight of the team's 11 points.

- Johns Hopkins quickly captured momentum with a 14-2 answer to build a six-point advantage at the 6:46 mark. Cal Hanson and Paquette countered with a couple much-needed buckets, but the Blue Jays clapped back with 13-unanswered points, creating a 33-17 cushion.

- The Garnet clawed back into the game with a five-point possession at the 2:02 mark. Nyle Coleman split the first of two free throws, while Caleb Aurelien grabbed the ensuing rebound to steal an extra possession. Hanson then hit on a contested three-pointer, while knocking down his and-one opportunity from the line. Hanson added one final jumper before the buzzer to end the quarter with seven-straight Swarthmore points, making it 33-24.

- The Blue Jays built their advantage up to 14 points to open the second half until Aurelien hit from long range. Moments later, Brady Kageyama and Matthew Maloney drilled consecutive threes to bring the Garnet within single digits, 42-35.

- Midway through the second, the Garnet strung together nine-straight points to shrink their deficit to three with 9:23 left. Coleman connected from three during the run, while Burger, Paquette and Andrew Park added buckets.

- Hopkins strengthened its grip on the game with an 11-4 answer, building its lead back to double digits, 58-48. Paquette attempted to keep the Garnet in the game with a flurry of buckets, but the Blue Jays cashed in their free throws down the stretch to secure a road victory.
