Women’s Swimming Earns Six All-American Swimmers, Collins Garners First-Team Status

GREENSBORO, NC - The No. 12 Swarthmore College women's swimming team earned six All-American swimmers on the opening day of the NCAA National Championships on Wednesday night.

Genine Collins was awarded All-America first-team status with a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle, while also winning second-team honors as a member of the 400 medley relay. Erin Szuromi, Sophie Rotival and Elle Anthony also garnered second-team recognition for their efforts on the 400 medley relay. Quinn Weygandt rounded out Swarthmore's All-American swimmers with a second-team finish in the 200 individual medley.

Collins achieved her sixth and seventh All-American nods after capturing five during her rookie season. The sophomore standout earned her second-straight, first-team accolade in the 50 freestyle for her fourth career first-team nod.

Weygandt added her fourth all-time All-American honor, and her first in the 200 individual medley. Anthony earned her seventh, while Rotival captured her sixth and Szuromi collected her fourth. Rotival, Szuromi and Anthony have been second-team winners on the 400 medley relay for three-straight seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Collins finished third in the nation in the 50 freestyle. The sophomore saved her best swim of the season for the biggest stage with a Centennial Conference record of 22.79. She finished behind an NYU junior and an Emory senior to medal in the event. Collins swam below 23-seconds in the prelims to earn the fourth seed in the finals. Last season, Collins earned All-American status in the same event with an eighth-place finish.

- Weygandt finished 13th overall in the 200 IM with a fifth-place finish in the consolation final. The junior earned her first All-American distinction in the event with a time of 2:04.34. She swam one-hundredth of a second faster than her prelim mark, while improving by one position.

- The 400 medley relay of Szuromi, Rotival, Collins and Anthony finished 15th overall with a time of 3:46.52. The quartet touched a second faster than their prelim mark to rank second all-time in program history. The same four individuals garnered second-team status with a ninth-place finish at last year's championships.

- Anthony competed in the 50 freestyle prelims with a time of 23.64. The junior placed 35th overall in the morning swim.

- Ava Craig posted a time of 5:03.20 in the 500 freestyle prelims. The sophomore placed 31st overall in her NCAA Championship debut.

- Annaliese Chen touched at 2:08.11 in the 200 individual medley prelims. Her time was 43rd overall in the morning session.
