LANCASTER, Pa. – Swarthmore College's
Michael Melnikov garnered Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Melnikov went 5-1 overall with a perfect 3-0 singles mark at the ITA Indoor National Championship as the 9th-ranked Garnet faced a trio of opponents ranked in the top 11 nationally and took sixth place in the tournament. All three of his singles victories were in straight sets. Melnikov was 2-0 versus No. 4 Case Western Reserve and No. 11 Trinity (Texas) before finishing the weekend 1-1 against No. 7 Emory. The junior was directly responsible for three of the eight total team points Swarthmore scored over the three matches and his doubles play helped the Garnet earn another point.
The Garnet return to the court on Saturday versus No. 5 Denison University.
