LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 13 Swarthmore College women's swimming team captured the team title at the Franklin and Marshall Invitational contested from Friday through Sunday.
The Garnet compiled 1189 points, just edging out Division II Bloomsburg University (1186.5). Swarthmore produced 15 program top-10 swims, including a pair of Centennial Conference records by
Genine Collins (50 free) and
Sam Packard (100 IM).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet finished first in the 200 free relay with Collins,
Riley Bacinski,
Ainsley Jane Tambling, and
Elle Anthony. The group posted a NCAA B-cut time of 1:34.07, which ranks third in program history. Collins's lead-off leg of 22.78 set a new school and Centennial record for the 50 free. The junior edged out her own mark of 22.79 from last season's NCAA Championships.
- Packard took her place in the record books with a program and conference record of 59.27 in the 100 IM. She surpassed the previous standard of 1:00.04 set by Swarthmore's Gaby Ma in 2022.
- The 400 medley relay of
Maya Ambardekar, Anthony, Bacinski, and Collins posted a winning time of 3:49.46, good for seventh-best in program history. The Garnet also won the 800 free relay with
Kate Hallmark, Bacinski,
Emerson Schneider, and
Ava Craig in 7:43.45.
- Craig touched the wall first in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.43.
Quinn Weygandt placed second in the 200 IM with a NCAA B-cut time of 2:04.51 while Anthony followed in third (2:07.06). Anthony's time sits third in the Swarthmore record book.
- Hallmark registered a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 back (2:06.42) and 1650 free (17:33.93).
Norah Rutkowski also had a second-place showing in the 200 breast, coming in at 2:22.53.
- The Garnet placed second in a pair of relays. The 200 medley relay of Ambardekar, Packard, Rutkowski, and Collins finished in 1:45.01.
Margaret Sawa, Packard, Hallmark, and Bacinski teamed up for the 400 free relay and posted a time of 3:32.21. Collins came in third (56.29) in the 100 fly and Ambardekar took third (57.18) in the 100 back. Ambardekar's time in the 100 back is second in program history.
- Bacinski amassed four individual top-five finishes on the weekend. The rookie was fourth in the 100 free (52.32), fourth in the 100 IM (1:00.24), fifth in the 50 free (23.98), and fifth in the 100 fly (57.02). Her times in the 50 free and 100 free both rank sixth all-time.
