LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Swarthmore College men's cross country team finished in second place at the NCAA Metro Regional on Saturday, posting its highest finish since the 2022 season.
The Garnet recorded 76 points on the 8K course at the Gloucester County DREAM Park, just beating out Moravian University (81) and Haverford College (84) for runner-up honors. The College of New Jersey captured the team title with 56 points.
Swarthmore had six runners place in the top-35 to earn All-Region recognition, the most in the past 15 years.
Cohen Manges led the group with a fifth-place showing with
Matthew Fleming,
Jasper Mosley,
Charlie Schuetz,
Luka Opacic-Rodrigues, and
Joey Alander also garnering the award.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Manges crossed the line fifth with a time of 24:44.8, posting a career-best time for the regional meet and matching his best finish. It is Manges's third consecutive All-Region nod and he is poised to compete at the national championships for the third year in a row.
- Fleming and Mosley finished back-to-back in 13
th (25:12.3) and 14
th (25:13.8) place respectively. Fleming surpassed his previous top time and finish at regionals while Mosley ran an overall career best in the 8K. It is the first career All-Region honor for both athletes.
- Schuetz recorded a personal best with a time of 25:22.6, beating his previous record by nearly 11 seconds, and came in 19
th place in his regional debut. Opacic-Rodrigues took 25
th in 25:47.5 in his first regional meet.
- Alander placed 29
th with a time of 25:50.8 at his first regional championship.
Teddy King-Pollet rounded out the Garnet seven, crossing 37
th (26:07.7) and narrowly missing out on an All-Region spot. He improved upon his regional time and finish from a year ago.
