Men’s Cross Country Takes Third at Centennial Championships, Manges Claims All-CC Second-Team

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's cross country team finished third overall at the Centennial Conference Championships on Saturday. Johns Hopkins placed first overall at the championship meet, while Haverford College edged out the Garnet for second place. 

Cohen Manges raced to All-Centennial Second-team status for the third-straight season, finishing 11th overall every season. The junior fell just short of his personal record with a time of 24:48.4, missing his previous best by only seven seconds. 

Matthew Fleming missed out on all-conference status by just one position. The junior placed 15th overall and five seconds behind the final all-conference recipient. He recorded his first top-20 finish at the Centennial Championships. 

As a team, the men's program matched their highest finish in Centennial Championship history. The Garnet previously finished third overall in 2022 and 1993. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- Manges continued his trend of placing 11th at the conference championships, securing second-team status in each of his first three seasons. He crossed the finish line at 24:48.4 to register his fastest time of the season, but fell just seven seconds short of his personal record. 

- Fleming missed out on all-conference status by just one position. The junior placed 15th overall with a personal record of 25:01.0, improving his previous mark by six seconds. Fleming has had an outstanding season with personal records in all five of his races. He sets his sights on breaking the 25-minute threshold at the upcoming NCAA Regional Championships.

- Jasper Mosley finished in 21st place to record the team's third-best finish. The sophomore crossed the finish line at 25:21.9 to earn his second-straight top-25 finish at the championship meet.

- Charlie Schuetz also enjoyed a top-25 finish with a time of 25:34.2. The junior was 25th overall to earn his highest conference championship effort by 12 positions. Schuetz came in just one second behind his personal record. 

- Joey Alander and Luka Opacic-Rodrigues finished bunched together inside the top-30. Alander claimed 27th overall at 25:38.2, while Opacic-Rodrigues was 29th with a 25:40.20 mark. Both competitors set personal records and secured their highest career finishes at the championship meet. 

- Teddy King-Pollet rounded out the team's top-seven as he led a trio of Swarthmore runners in 31st, 32nd and 33rd place. King-Pollet led the group with a time of 25:42.50, while Alex Thompson and Spencer Etheridge followed at 25:45.10 and 25:46.30, respectively. All three runners gave their all with personal records in the 8k race.
