FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Swarthmore College men's tennis team continued play at the ITA Regional Tournament on Friday at the University of Mary Washington.
In championship singles,
Max Lindstrom and
Michael Melnikov both advanced to the quarterfinals with a pair of victories. With his two successes, Lindstrom became the 11
th player in program history to reach 100 career wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lindstrom dropped just one game in his Round of 32 match versus Dickinson College, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win. The senior, seeded fifth, then was entrenched in a close battle against the ninth seed from Mary Washington but came out on top in a thrilling 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (13-11) decision. Lindstrom will face Carnegie Mellon University in the quarterfinals.
- Melnikov, the second seed in the bracket, made quick work of his opponent from Catholic University, 6-1, 6-2, in the Round of 32. He then defeated Haverford College by an identical 6-1, 6-2 score in the Round of 16. The senior draws the fifth seed from Johns Hopkins University in the quarters.
- In the opening round of championship doubles, Galov/Choo dispatched the team from Hampden-Sydney College, 8-4. The duo then upset the ninth-seeded pair from Haverford College, 8-5, to move on to the Round of 16. Galov/Choo will take on the fifth seed Carnegie Mellon.
- After receiving a bye to the Round of 32, the ninth-seeded pair of Chen/Fente rolled to an 8-1 victory versus Franklin and Marshall College. They will battle Mary Washington in the Round of 16.
- Chen dropped his Round of 32 singles match to the ninth seed from Carnegie Mellon, 6-3, 3-6, 0-1 (6-10).
Lalith Suresh picked up a pair of wins in consolation play, 8-1 versus Muhlenberg College and 8-5 against Haverford.
Dylan Hayes Gilbert grabbed a consolation win over Mary Washington, 8-6, before bowing out with a 6-8 loss to Virginia Wesleyan University.
ST. JOSEPH'S INVITATIONAL
- In addition,
Fate MacAlasdair and
Cameron Samek are representing Swarthmore at the St. Joseph's Invitational. MacAlasdair won his opening singles match, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 versus the University of Delaware. Samek was relegated to the consolation bracket with a 5-7, 4-6 defeat to Temple University. The duo paired up for a 6-2 doubles victory against St. Joseph's.
