4x800m relay poses for picture after setting program record

Men's 4x800 Program Record Highlights NYC Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, NY - The 4x800m relay of Matthew Gutow, Robert Mirabello, Colin DeLaney and Kenneth Relovsky claimed the indoor program record to headline the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday afternoon. The Garnet relay beat a decade's old record by nearly two seconds as they bested several top teams to claim a runner-up finish in the event. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gutow, Mirabello, DeLaney and Relovsky closed the night on a high note with a program record in the 4x800 relay. The men crossed the finish line at 7:57.99 to overtake the previous-best mark of 7:59.12, which was set by Jonas Oppenheimer, Corey Branch, Paul Green and Erick White in 2014. 

- Joshua Leinwand raced to a personal record (4:29.13) in the mile for the second-straight meet. The sophomore trimmed nearly 10-seconds off his previous best to place 24th overall. Leinwand entered the season with a previous best of 4:50.81 in the event. Luka Opacic-Rodrigues (4:30.27) and Jasper Mosley (4:35.99) followed closely behind in their collegiate track debuts. 

- Joey Alander earned himself a personal record in the 3000m run. The sophomore posted a time of 9:07.11 to finish 10-seconds faster than his previous best. He was 25th overall in the event. 

- Jay van Adrichem Boogaert placed 18th overall in the 1000m run with a 2:41.28 mark, while fellow senior Ben Rosin took 23rd at 2:45.81. 

- Noah St. George made his collegiate debut in the long jump with a 6.26m mark. The first-year placed 20th in a field of 44 competitors. 

- Jean Michel Irankunda improved his collegiate best in the 60m dash with a time of 7.76. The first-year cut three tenths of a second off his previous best.

The Garnet return to action next weekend at the Widener Winter Evening Invite and the Franklin & Marshall Coach I Invitational.
