DeLaney Breaks Steeplechase Record, Track & Field Wraps Up Season at Widener Final Qualifier

CHESTER, Pa. - Several student-athletes set personal records as the Swarthmore College track & field teams wrapped up the 2024 season at the Widener Final Qualifier on Monday. 

Colin DeLaney headlined the list of personal bests with a program record in the 3000m steeplechase. The junior knocked off a nearly 40-year-old record in his final meet of the season. Aiden Tomov and Kenneth Relovsky also recorded top-10 all-time efforts in their respective events, as a handful of competitors set personal milestones for Swarthmore. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- DeLaney set a program record in the 3000m steeplechase. The junior finished at 9:15.99 to take nearly five seconds off his previous best. Kirk Swenson previously held the program record since 1985 with a time of 9:16.90. DeLaney placed fifth overall in the event. 

- Tomov recorded a personal best in the 1500m run with a time of 3:55.02. The senior took just over three seconds off his previous-best mark as he finished 16th overall. Robert Mirabello also set a massive personal record in the event with a 4:03.04 mark, which improved on his previous best by eight seconds. 


Olivia Montini took four seconds off her previous best in the 1500m run. Montini crossed the finish line at 4:46.60 to place 13th overall. 

- Sam Brody finished with a time of 14:44.95 in the 5000m run. The senior took 15th overall as he fell a second short of a personal record. Andrew Cheng also closed out his Swarthmore career with a time of 15:35.46 in the event.


- Relovsky took nearly five seconds off his previous best in the 800m run. The first-year recorded a mark of 1:54.95 as he took 19th overall. 

- Cami Bortz raced to a personal record in the 400m run with a time of 1:02.45. The senior shaved a tenth of a second off her previous best as she placed 14th overall in the event. She also posted a 29.69 finish in the 200m run.

- Lydia Morris-Kliment took third in the discus throw. The first-year missed out on a personal-best mark with a best throw of 41.17m.
