WAYNESBORO, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's golf team finished as the runner-up at the Centennial Conference Championship to earn its highest finish since 2017.
The Garnet recorded their lowest 54-hole total in program history with a three-round score of 878 to finish 14-over-par for the tournament. The team took 13 strokes off their previous program record, which was set at last year's Centennial Championship. Swarthmore also carded a third round total of 286, which ranks as the third-best round in program history
Benjamin Garcia Moreira and Dylan Zhang tied for fourth overall to earn a selection to the All-Centennial Team. Zhang recorded his second-straight All-Centennial honor as the pairing became the first Swarthmore duo to finish inside the top-five since 2017. Both individuals carded a three-round score of 217 to break the program's record for lowest 54-hole total. Zhang previously broke the record with a 218 in his rookie season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Garcia-Moreira and Zhang finished one-over-par for the tournament to tie for fourth overall. Garcia-Moreira shot one-under in the final round with a pair of birdies and finished with eight total. The rookie carded a mistake-free front nine with an even-par 36. His lone blemish was an 11th hole bogey, but he bounced back with birdies on the 12th and 15th holes, respectively.
- Zhang shot an even-par 72 for the second-straight round. The sophomore was outstanding on the front nine to shoot three-under to open play, but ran into some trouble on the back half with a double bogey on the 10th hole. Zhang had four birdies on the day and 10 total for the tournament.
- Yuxuan Wang climbed one position as he tied for eighth overall at six-over-par for the tournament. The first-year shot one-over in the final round and collected five birdies. He had 12 total birdies for the tournament.
- Neil Zhu had his best round of the weekend to climb one spot on the leaderboard. Zhu barely missed out on a top-10 finish as he tied for 11th overall at eight-over-par for the tournament. The sophomore carded an even-par 72 for the final round with three birdies and an eagle. Zhu finished three-under on the front nine, but cooled off with some tough scores on the back stretch.
- Max Ash was one of the biggest movers of the day as he climbed four spots on the leaderboard. The first-year recorded his best round of the weekend as he finished one-under for the day. Ash ended strong with three birdies to card two-under on the back nine.
