WAYNESBORO, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's golf team began play at the Centennial Conference Championship on Friday at the par-72 Waynesboro Country Club.
The Garnet recorded a score of 303 and sit in third place after the opening round of the 54-hole tournament. Swarthmore is eight strokes off the leader, Franklin and Marshall College, and just one behind second-place Gettysburg College.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Dylan Zhang led the squad with a one-over-par 73 and he is tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard. Zhang is just two strokes off the lead entering round two. He was three-over with five holes to play but tallied back-to-back birdies on 14 and 15 to finish the round strong.

Neil Zhu is tied for ninth place with a 76 (+4). He struggled early, posting a four-over 40 on the front nine but played even par the rest of the way, including a pair of birdies.

Yuxuan Wang and
Benjamin Garcia Moreira both shot a 77 (+5) and are tied for 15
th place. Wang got off to a slow start, bogeying five of his first six holes, but settled in and played even par over his last 12. Wang totaled two birdies. Garcia Moreira had an up-and-down day but finished the round with a birdie on 18.

Max Ash recorded an 82 (+10) and is tied for 25
th place. He posted a pair of birdies during his round.
