GREENWOOD, Ind. – Swarthmore College's
Vinny DeAngelo was named an Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators (CSC) for the first time in his prolific career, the organization announced on Wednesday.
DeAngelo was selected to the Academic All-America Second Team and was one of just 15 players in Division III to earn the honor. The Academic All-America program is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across college sports.
DeAngelo is the 33
rd Swarthmore student-athlete to receive Academic All-America distinction and the first in men's basketball.
DeAngelo led the Garnet in scoring and three-pointers (63), averaging 17.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He was a member of the NABC All-America Third Team and D3hoops.com All-America Fourth Team. DeAngelo was tabbed the D3hoops.com Region V Player of the Year for the second year in a row and was a consensus First Team All-Region selection. The senior picked up his fourth career All-Centennial accolade, earning First Team distinction.
On the academic side, DeAngelo was the Centennial Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second season in a row. He is a three-time Academic All-Centennial Team and Centennial Academic Honor Roll selection. DeAngelo has been a member of the CSC Academic All-District Team three times and is a two-time PhillySIDA Academic All-Area honoree. He was the 2022-23 PhillySIDA Men's Basketball Academic All-Area Performer of the Year.
DeAngelo helped Swarthmore claim its second consecutive Centennial crown and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
