Men’s Golf Wins McDaniel Spring Invitational

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's golf team finished first overall among the Centennial Conference's best teams at the McDaniel Spring Invitational. The teams competed in only one round of competition after Saturday's action was canceled due to weather. 

Swarthmore carded a team score of 299 (+11) to defeat three-time Centennial Champion Franklin & Marshall College by one stroke. The Garnet also bested McDaniel College, Gettysburg College and Dickinson College, who were all ranked higher than Swarthmore in the Centennial Preseason Poll. 

The Garnet picked up a massive tournament victory behind the efforts of five underclassmen. Sophomore Andy Xin broke even for the round to place second overall individually, while Dylan Zhang, Max Ash and Neil Zhu all recorded top-10 finishes. Yuxuan Wang also finished one-stroke outside of the top-10 with a 17th place effort. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Xin finished one stroke off the leader to place as the runner-up. The sophomore carded a 72 (E) for his third lowest round of the season. Xin has shot even or better in three of his last four rounds. 

- Zhang placed third overall with a 73 (+1) for the round. The sophomore recorded his lowest score of the spring to bounce back from a difficult round at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational. 

- Ash and Zhu tied with eight golfers for ninth overall with a 77 (+5) for the round. Wang also had a strong performance as he placed one-stroke outside of the top-10 with a 78 (+6).

The Garnet return to action next week at the Pennsylvania Classic.
