GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Swarthmore College women's swimming team opened competition at the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday and came away with a pair of All-America performances.
In her national championships debut,
Genine Collins earned All-America First Team honors with an eighth-place finish in the 50 freestyle.
Elle Anthony took 10
th overall in the 50 free with a personal-best time for All-America Second Team accolades. It is Anthony's first career individual All-America honor.
The Garnet totaled 18 points on the first day of racing and sit in a tie for 11
th place heading into day two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Collins snagged the eighth and final spot in the championship final with her prelim time of 23.19, beating out the ninth-place swimmer by just 0.05 seconds. Collins's time was also just 0.08 seconds off her school record in the event. In the final, the rookie finished eighth in 23.27 seconds. Collins is slated for five more events this week.
- Anthony swam her way into the consolation final with an 11
th-place finish in the prelims. Her time of 23.37 was just 0.06 seconds short of her personal best. Anthony then surpassed her top mark and touched the wall second in the consolation final with a time of 23.26. She was just 0.05 seconds behind the winner. Anthony improved upon her seeding by two spots, jumping from 12
th to 10
th. She will be back in the pool for five more events at the championships.
- Swarthmore had three athletes compete in the 200 individual medley.
Quinn Weygandt swam her first of five events this week and finished 27
th overall with a time of 2:06.17.
Sophie Rotival posted a time of 2:06.61 and came in 29
th place. She will compete in five more events this week.
Annaliese Chen rounded out the Garnet competitors, taking 47
th in 2:09.45. Chen will race twice more at the national championships.

Kate Hallmark and
Lauren Rohde both hit the water for the 500 freestyle, placing 38
th (5:06.23) and 41
st (5:08.06) respectively. Hallmark has two more events on her schedule this week while Rohde will swim three more times.
- Swarthmore was also entered in the 200 medley relay but, unfortunately, was disqualified for an early take-off.
UP NEXT
The Garnet will have eight athletes compete across four events on Thursday (200 freestyle relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 400 medley relay). The prelims begin at 10 a.m. with the finals slated for 6 p.m.
