JOELTON, Tenn. – The Swarthmore College men's golf team opened its spring schedule on Saturday with the opening round of the Music City Shootout. The Garnet sit in third place after 18 holes at Nashville National Golf Links.
Swarthmore posted a first-round score of 300 (+20) and are just seven strokes behind the top spot.
Benjamin Garcia Moreira and
Yuxuan Wang led the way for the Garnet, as both are inside the top 10 individuals. Garcia-Moreira scored a 73 (+3) and is in a tie for fifth while Wang is tied for eighth with a 74 (+4).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Garcia Moreira started slow, shooting four-over-par over his first five holes. However, he turned it around, recording three birdies the rest of the way to break into the top five.
- Wang sank a birdie on his fourth hole to go one-under, but struggled in the middle of the round as he had five bogeys in a seven-hole span to drop to four-over. He made another birdie on 18 and stayed in contention entering the final day.

Dylan Zhang shot a 76 (+6) and is tied for 18
th place. He made a pair of birdies, both of which came in the back nine.

Max Ash birdied on nine and finished with a 77 (+7). He is tied for 20
th place.
Neil Zhu rounded out the Swarthmore scorers, tying for 25
th with a 78 (+8). He posted two birdies.

Andy Xin competed as an individual and shot a 79 (+9) to tie for 33
rd on the leaderboard.
