GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The No. 16 Swarthmore College women's swimming team won the Centennial Conference title for the third year in a row, and fifth time overall, after another outstanding day of competition at Gettysburg College's Bullets Pool.
The Garnet finished the four-day meet with 991 points, topping second-place Gettysburg by more than 100 points. Swarthmore closed the event with an impressive 27 medals (13 gold, seven silver, seven bronze).
Quinn Weygandt capped off a dominating weekend with another pair of gold medals in the 200 butterfly and as part of the 400 freestyle relay. She was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the championships after racking up five golds, three of which came in individual events. Weygandt's swims produced three championship records, three conference records, five pool records, five NCAA B cuts, and four program records.
Sophie Rotival rewrote the record book with her win in the 200 breaststroke, setting new championship, conference, pool, and program records. It was the same for the 400 freestyle relay team of
Genine Collins,
Ainsley Jane Tambling, Weygandt, and
Elle Anthony, who also set a new standard in all categories.
Kate Hallmark earned her first career individual gold and broke the school record in the 1650 freestyle.
Lexi Duffy also set a new program standard in the 200 backstroke on her way to a silver medal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet swept the podium in the 200 butterfly with Weygandt (2:03.28),
Annaliese Chen (2:03.49), and
Lauren Rohde (2:05.30) taking the top three spots. Weygandt's time was a pool record and a NCAA B cut. It was also good for second all-time in the program record book. Chen's time was also a NCAA B cut. Chen and Rohde sit third and sixth respectively in the program's top-10 list.
- In addition to smashing several records, Rotival's gold medal-winning time of 2:18.77 in the 200 breaststroke was a NCAA B cut. She dominated the race, winning by nearly three seconds.
- Hallmark's winning time of 17:08.05 in the 1650 freestyle was a NCAA B cut and eclipsed her own school record from a year ago. She cleared the second-place finisher by 15 seconds.
- The 400 freestyle relay clocked in at 3:24.93, which surpassed the program record by over three seconds. It also met the NCAA B cut.
- Duffy (2:04.63) and
Anna Liu (2:05.17) took silver and bronze respectively in the 200 backstroke. They hold the top two times in the event in program history.
- Anthony (51.14) and Collins (51.18) both surpassed the NCAA B cut in claiming silver and bronze respectively in the 100 freestyle. Their times rank second and third on Swarthmore's all-time list.
